S.R.W.K. & S.R.E.K. Are Currently Sold Out

The
Starnater Reliant Knives
are currently sold out. E-mail us if you'd like to be notified when they are back in stock.

The S.R.E.K. is a 2/3 size version of the S.R.W.K. with a
4" blade of 5/32" ATS-34 Stainless and a 4" micarta handle.
Weighing only 5 ounces (7.5 ounces in the sheath)
this is your perfect "everyday" knife!

Eddie has spent many years designing and perfecting the exact knife that he wants on his belt, whether he is out in the woods or working around the Hacienda. It has been a long road getting these knives just right, and we are pleased and proud to be able to offer them to you at last.

All About the S.R.W.K.

The Starnater Reliant WOODSMAN'S Knife (S.R.W.K.) has a full-tang blade made from 1/4-inch CM154 stainless steel with a polished hollow-ground edge that sweeps out to an fine point, making this a blade that is both heavy-duty enough to chop down a small tree or rough out a bow and capable of fine detail work such as carving a bowdrill notch or trap parts. As a special design feature, the blade tip has been designed at a 45 degree angle — the perfect size for a bowdrill or hand drill notch — so you will always have your template with you, no matter where you are.
The blade spine has a slight sweeping curve that comes to a ridge two inches behind the tip, so when you are using a piece of wood to hit the back of the knife for chopping or splitting it will have better purchase and be less likely to slip off, giving you more control and creating more efficiency with each blow. This also provides an ergonomic handhold when used to remove wood as with a draw knife.
The grind is specifically designed so that, when used for splitting, the knife edge is in contact with the wood for the minimum amount of time. Within a half-inch the thicker part of the blade takes over the work, leaving the edge free and clear and without further risk.
The tang tapers slightly between the middle rivet and the butt end, reducing the weight while maintainin strength, and bringing the balance point of the knife over the index finger, providing you the fullest amount of control over your blade.
Three stainless steel Loveless-style screws are absolutely flush with the grips to give you the greatest assurance that no part will pop off or come loose at the wrong moment.
The S.R.W.K. comes in an ambidextrous leather sheath that can be worn in either a vertical or horizontal carry, and in keeping with our commitment and practice of bringing you high-quality AND affordability, is priced at under $200!
(NOTE: We have received word from our knife-maker that the cost of both the steel and handle material have gone up and this is likely the last batch we will be able to offer before a small price increase in 2013.)

All About the S.R.W.K

At an overall length of 8-inches, The Starnater Reliant EVERYDAY Knife (S.R.E.K.) is a 2/3 size version of the Woodsman, perfect for carrying on your belt every day. The full-tang blade is made from 5/32" ATS-34 Stainless Steel with a polished flat-ground edge that sweeps out to a fine point, ensuring your blade is stong enough to do some of the heavier-duty work that needs doing, yet perfect for carving whatever tools you may need.
As a special design feature, the point of the blade is exactly 45 degrees — the perfect size for a bowdrill or hand drill notch — so you will always have your notch template with you, no matter where you are.
The spine of the blade has a slight sweeping curve that comes to a ridge 1½ inches behind the tip to provide better purchase when you are using a piece of wood to hit the back of the knife for chopping or splitting, giving you more control and creating more efficiency with each blow.
The grind tapers almost to the very top of the blade to offer the ultimate in splitting power on this smaller knife, while the back of the blade is left square to facilitate scraping functions such as removing plant fibers or using a "metal match".
To reduce the weight while maintaining strength, and create a balance point further toward the blade, the tang begins to taper at the center point between the two rivets, bringing the balance point of the knife directly to the front rivet, giving you the fullest amount of control over your blade.
Two stainless steel Loveless-style screws are absolutely flush with the grips to give you the greatest assurance that no part will pop off or come loose at the wrong moment. It comes in a vertical leather sheath that can be made ambidextrous with the use of a carabiner, and in keeping with our commitment and practice of bringing you high-quality AND affordability, is priced at under $200!

S.R.W.K.

S.R.E.K.

The Blade

Eddie tried out prototypes made from several different steels, and after comparing edge retention, ease of sharpening, durability, ease of maintenance, and cost, chose 154CM Stainless steel for the S.R.W.K., and ATS-34 Stainless for the S.R.E.K. For our purposes, these outperformed the rest by far, bringing the best performance for a reasonable cost! A tough steel that can stand a lot of punishment, Eddie roughed out an entire greenwood bow with his S.R.W.K. and it was still shaving sharp! Both knives have been put through a whole lot of abuse (including cutting tin cans) and return to "Eddie sharp" quickly and easily.

The Handle

Both handles are made from micarta (a resin-infused fiber compound) so you'll have no worries about the grips succumbing to the rigors of weather or rot. Since these knives are designed to get a lot of outdoor use, this was an important consideration.
The scales are smoth and comfortable in your hand, and without the stress of expanding and contracting in heat and cold (as happens with wood handles) they will remain that way for years to come. (Lanyard not included.)

The Sheath

Each Starnater Reliant Knife comes in an ambidexterous heavy-duty leather sheath. The S.R.W.K. sheath is designed to be worn in a horizontal carry and will fit any standard-sized belt. However, for those of you who, like Eddie & Julie, rarely wear a belt, the attachment point at the top of the sheath will allow you to add a carabeener for vertical carry mode on a belt-loop or for carry on the outside of your gear. Also a great spot to attach a ferrocerium fire starting rod (shown below), the attachement point is large enough to accomodate both a carabeener and a metal match, making it even more versatile! (Carabeener & striker not included.) The S.R.E.K. has a more traditional belt loop that is large enough for easily adding a carabeener for either right- or left-side carry (shown below).
